Investigative Services Section
The Investigative Services Section is responsible for the initial investigation of all deaths within Kendall County. The primary goal of this section is to determine both the cause and manner of death through careful review and evidence collection. Depending on the circumstances, investigators may arrive directly at a scene or manage the process by coordinating with local law enforcement and healthcare professionals.
Because of the specialized nature of this work, every investigator in this section is a sworn Deputy Coroner. Under Illinois Statutes 55 ILCS 5/3-3007 and 725 ILCS 5/107-16, these individuals are also classified as Peace Officers. This legal status ensures the team has the authority required to conduct thorough investigations on behalf of the public. To ensure the highest level of service, the Coroner, Chief Deputy, and Forensic Services Manager also assist with these duties as part of their commitment to the county.
