Kendall County Health Department employs over 50 individuals. Salaries and benefits offered by KCHD are competitive with other private and public sector positions. Employment benefits vary according to full-time or part-time employment status and between employee groups. Benefits options include:

Public Health Nurse (LPN/RN)

Public Health Nurse: Part Time - Exempt 


Responsibilities

  • Provides direct nursing services in all community health programs, which include, but are not limited to immunizations, Vaccines for Children (VFC), communicable disease, Better Birth Outcomes (BBO), psychiatric nursing, mobile unit programs, emergency preparedness, and other special programs & projects.
  • Completes the investigation and control of communicable disease by conducting appropriate follow-up activities.
  • Administers medicine as prescribed to communicable disease cases, as well as prophylaxis to close contacts.
  • Assists in outbreak investigations. Completes communicable disease data entry into applicable databases.
  • Provide safe handling, storage and inventory of medications/vaccines.  Ensure safe disposal of medications and other bio-hazardous materials in all Community Health Services Programs.  Prepares records and reports of an operational, professional and, occasionally, research nature.

Schedule

  • 8:30 am – 4:30 pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
  • 11:00 am – 7:00 pm Tuesday (24 hour work week).
  • Additional evenings and weekends as directed.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Positive, cooperative, and professional attitude.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reflects experience/interest in the culturally diverse population that the health department serves.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements

  • Requires an associate’s degree in nursing (LPN equivalent). A bachelor’s degree in nursing and Registered Nurse (RN) is preferred. 
  • Two years of experience in infectious disease surveillance and prevention work, to include the provision of client centered disease prevention counseling preferred. 
  • Valid Illinois Driver’s License. Required to become an authorized driver upon hire.
  • Ability to pass background check.
